What does the course cover?
This Chinese Mandarin evening course is for post beginners focusing on socialising, meeting, greeting and making arrangements: how to describe physical attributes, personalities and preferences, how to plan and make arrangements. The course provides the building blocks to enable learners to progress to the next stage: Post Beginners II.
The course is communicative in approach focusing on speaking and listening in class, but will also develop recognition of Chinese characters for reading and comprehension.
Is the course at the right level for me?
Yes, if you have completed a beginners course, have equivalent experience or are returning to learning having learnt at a higher level in the past. We will be introducing characters and reading and writing skills from the beginning, so you will be able to begin to use characters if you have not used them before.
What will I achieve?
Build your confidence in speaking Chinese. Refresh your knowledge of pronunciation, pinyin and the four tones. Be prepared to meet and greet people appropriately. Talk about yourself and others, exchange personal information talk about appearance and what people look like. Describe personalities. Make a date, make arrangements and appointments. Use numbers, dates, currency, correctly. Raise your awareness of cultural difference and the dos and don’ts of Chinese society.
