Fluent in Living

Trainer, educationalist and publisher, Marta Garrido let's us in on the
meaning of bilingualism in her life and the way she lives language........
Fluent in Living
The advantages of bilingualism in the publishing industry are many and
varied. The ability to communicate with others in their native tongue has opened
up doors where it might have been impossible to reach clients in foreign
language speaking countries.
Speaking another language and being familiar with cultural nuances can
enhance a person’s working experiences in many fields.

Advantages of Bilingualism in Business
In publishing, for instance, it has allowed me to liaise with companies
world-wide to develop and produce educational material aimed at the medical
profession and the lay public. Foreign clients respond warmly and are more
willing to listen when at least the initial contact is in their own language.
Another area in publishing in which a second language can be useful
is in document editing and approval. Knowing another language provide you the
skills to ensure documents are translated properly and all your t’s are crossed
before the final production phase. Knowing one of the romance languages well,
for example, allows one to see if documents in other romance languages are
translated properly.
