Love, marriage, sense and sensibility:this play tells the story of how fifty-nine year old Don Diego is set to marry the beautiful, sixteen year old Francisca in an arranged marriage. Will love and sense prevail over nineteenth century Spanish custom?
The play, with its criticisms of religious superstition, only just escaped the Inquisition because Leandro Fernández de Moratín was a protegé of Manuel Godoy, the king’s right-hand man...
What does the course cover?
